Shelley's Poetry and Prose (Norton Critical Edition) by Percy Bysshe Shelley from W. W. Norton

This volume contains one of the fullest, and certainly the most accurately edited, collections of Shelley's poetry and prose available.

This Second Edition is based on the authoritative texts established by Reiman and Fraistat for their scholarly edition, The Complete Poetry of Percy Bysshe Shelley. Each poetry and prose selection has been reedited from the ground up. Headnotes detailing the textual history of Shelley's major works have been revised and expanded, and many new and revised footnotes are included.

The years since 1977—when the First Edition appeared—have witnessed a renaissance in Shelley studies greater than any since 1870-92. All 23 critical selections are new, and include analysis of Shelley's manuscripts and other textual sources for his writing as well as interpretations.

A Chronology, rigorously updated Selected Bibliography, and Index of Titles and First Lines are also included.

Being Shelley: The Poet's Search for Himself

Being Shelley: The Poet's Search for Himself by Ann Wroe from Pantheon

From Ann Wroe--author of highly and widely praised Pontius Pilate: The Biography of an Invented Man--comes another singularly iconoclastic achievement: a book about Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the greatest poets in the Western tradition, that is concerned at once with the making of poetry and the transforming power of it. Extraordinary for its elegance of style and complete immersion in Shelley’s work, Being Shelley aims to turn the poet’s life inside out: rather than tracing the events of a life in which poetry erupts occasionally, it tracks the inner journey of a spirit struggling to escape and create.

In her own quest to understand Shelley, Ann Wroe takes up the questions that consume the poet himself: Who, or what, was he? What was his purpose? Where had he come from? And where was he going? By answering those questions, Shelley sought to free and empower not only himself, but the entire human race. His revolution would shatter the Earth’s illusions, shock men and women with new visions, find true love and liberty--and take everyone with him.

Now, for the first time, this passionate and radical quest is put at the center of Shelley’s life. The result is a Shelley who has never been seen in biography before.

The Major Works (Oxford World's Classics)

The Major Works (Oxford World's Classics) by Percy Bysshe Shelley from Oxford University Press, USA

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822) was a Romantic poet of radical imaginings, living in an age of change. His tempestuous life and friendship with Byron, and his tragically early death, at times threatened to overwhelm his legacy as a poet, but today his standing as one of the foremost English authors is assured.
This freshly edited collection--the fullest one-volume selection in English--includes all but one of the longer poems, from Queen Mab onwards, in their entirety. Only Laon and Cythna is excerpted, in a generous selection. As well as works such asPrometheus Unbound, The Mask of Anarchy, and Adonais, the volume includes a wide range of Shelley's shorter poems and much of his major prose, including A Defence of Poetry and almost all of A Philosophical View of Reform. Shelley emerges from these pages as a passionate and eloquent opponent of tyranny and a champion of human possibility.

Selected Poetry And Prose Of Shelley (Wordsworth Poetry) (Wordsworth Poetry Library)

Selected Poetry And Prose Of Shelley (Wordsworth Poetry) (Wordsworth Poetry Library) from Wordsworth Editions Ltd

Shelley's short, prolific life produced some of the most memorable and well-known lyrics of the Romantic period. But he was also the most radical writer in the English literary tradition of his day, a fiery political visionary committed to social change and progress. The generous selection in this volume represents the wide range of his writing, both poetry and prose. Arranged chronologically, the accompanying introductory essays set Shelley's works in their historical, social and political context.

Records of Shelley, Byron, and the Author (New York Review Books Classics)

Records of Shelley, Byron, and the Author (New York Review Books Classics) by Edward John Trelawny from NYRB Classics

In 1822, after having been discharged from the British navy, deserted by his wife, and as good as disowned by his father, the thirty-two year old Edward John Trelawny set off for Italy to make the acquaintance of his hero, Lord Byron. "I have met today the personification of my Corsair," Byron wrote in a letter. "He sleeps with the poem under his pillow, and all his past adventures and present manners aim at this personification." But though Byron enjoyed the company of his admirer, and was eventually to embark with him on his ill-fated final expedition to aid in the War of Greek Independence, he had grown guarded and ironical with age, and the perfect meeting of minds that Trelawny had envisioned was not to be. Shelley, however, enchanted him. In the months before his death at sea, he and Trelawny were frequent companions, and the young poet emerges from these pages in all his splendid carelessness and otherworldly concentration.
